The Long Island Four Club Cluster

For our readers who are not familiar with Dog Show terminology, a Cluster is simply a coalition of two or more Dog Clubs that work together and share some or all of the common show expenses, such as the  location, tents, judges, and club members as well. In our situation, the Cluster consists of FOUR Clubs with several of us belonging to three of the four Clubs. The individual Clubs provide their own staffs, decorations, raffles, and prizes. Our Cluster is based in Nassau and Suffolk Counties in New York State.

From youngest to oldest, we are:

          Big Apple Working Group Club

          Big Apple Sporting Society

          Suffolk County Kennel Club

          Westbury Kennel Association

The "Apples" are Group Clubs, while the other two are All-Breed.

This year in particular we are putting even more effort into a cooperative three day set of shows, and we are including FSS for the first time. It is not only very convenient for exhibitors and vendors to be in one location for three days, but it is a cost-effective practice for the Clubs in this era of lower entry numbers, and higher production costs.

The historic Old Westbury Gardens is an outstanding venue. In fact, Westbury Kennel Association held its first major show there! We all hope to see a grand turn-out of exhibitors, vendors, visitors, and sunshine!
